Vintage Vision: Part One

~ Outfit Details ~

Pale Blue Vintage Dress - Thrifted
Tan Belt - Primark
Two Tone Brogues - Primark
Cameo Pendant - H&M
Vintage Watch - Thrifted

A couple of weeks ago my friend Kim contacted me to ask for help on a project her and her friends were working on at Uni. The project involved creating a fashion magazine focused on vintage clothing. Kim asked if she could do a short interview with me and a photoshoot whilst wearing some of my thrifted vintage outfits. Of course I jumped at the chance, an outdoor photoshoot is something I've wanted to do for a while but I haven't been brave enough to do it alone.

I've decided to use the different outfit photos we took in three separate posts, this being the first. In the next posts I'd like to go into more depth on my own thoughts on vintage fashion.

~ The Interview ~

1. How did you first get into blogging?

One day, around a year ago, whilst browsing the internet looking for pictures of Christina Hendricks (Mad Men’s Joan Holloway) for style inspiration, I came across a collection of pictures of her on a random fashion blog, something I actually didn’t really know existed. I spent most of the rest of the day reading that blog and others linked from it.

It was the first time I’d felt really excited about fashion in a long time. I felt so inspired I decided to start my own blog and after much deliberation on a name, and many many (many) design tweaks later I set-up My Favourite Fashion.

2. How did you first get into thrifing (shopping in charity stores)?

I guess it started around the same time as I started blogging, that was really what inspired me to try to find more unique vintage clothing for a fraction of the price you would pay on the high street. I saw so many pretty outfits pictured on my favourite blogs, I thought I’d try it out for myself and once I started I was hooked.

3. What are your tips for finding the best clothes in charity shops?

* First and foremost is patience, you won’t find something amazing in every shop, in fact you might not find anything at all one day, and to be quite honest it’s mostly down to luck.

* It does help if you have an idea of what you’re looking for though. At the moment I’m keeping my eye open for crochet t-shirts, pleated skirts, vintage loafers and china tea sets (I’m trying to get a mismatched collection ready for a tea party in the summer).

* I always have more luck if I venture out of the city to nearby suburbs, the shops seem to be more well stocked and the prices are usually much lower.

* Don’t forget to check the bargain bins / sales rails. One persons trash is another persons treasure and often sales clerks have no idea how much something is worth.

* Lastly, take a quick peek at the men's section. I got an amazing vintage patterned jumper that fits me perfectly and I never would have seen it if I hadn't taken the time to look.

4. Who/What inspires your style?

Most of my style inspiration comes from other blogs and street style. Whilst I try to keep up with the latest catwalk trends I don’t stick to them religiously and would rather put my own individual stamp on my outfits. Having said that I do have a few celebrity favourites; Alexa Chung, Nicola Roberts, Shenae Grimes and Olivia Palermo.

What do you all think of my first attempt at outdoor outfit photos?

All photographs were taken by Kim Boothroyd - Thanks Kim.

Lovely dress, I love the colour and the pleats.
Some great tips for Charity shop shopping, though I shop in charity shops a lot, it's always good to see how other people find their amazing treasures.
